Visit my Show Success page to see the latest show results with my dogs including The first Champion Coton De tulear to be bred in the uk Cotontastick Mr whippy.
The Coton de Tulear originates from Madagascar they are known as the anti stress dog and are such a tolerant animal. They love to play in the snow and sunbathe in the sun.
They are suited to most people including those with allergies such as asthma or eczema, small children and most other animals, in fact they love everyone and everything. They will happily live in a small flat in the heart of a city with a few short walks a day or feel quite at home in a very big house in the country with regular long walks, they are a very strong hardy little dog.

They will adapt to your lifestyle and do anything they can to please you, the downside to this truly affectionate dog is they do not like being left alone for any long periods of time, I can give advice regarding leaving your Coton and this advice should be sort before considering buying a puppy. I personally have sold a few puppies to owners working part time and they have had no problems in leaving their puppy. The great thing is they will give you the wildest welcome home if you have been gone 2 mins or two hours.
The Coton de Tulear are a very healthy breed and also one of the longest living breeds of around 16 years in which they will act like a puppy throughout, they are now free from genetic defects due to careful and responsible breeding. They are very intelligent making them extremely easy to train. They are alert, agile, boisterous, non moulting and a lively companion but well behaved in the house.
They seldom bark but will alert you to the postman and other visitors, however if you do not want them to do this, they can be easily trained not to. They do not have the doggy odour some other breeds get even when the coat is wet! They love water but should not be bathed often as this dries the coat out of their natural oils.
Grooming is very easy until the puppy gets to around 9 months old however it should still be done daily to get the puppy used to being groomed at an early age in preparation to the dreaded coat change stage. This starts at around 9 months and goes on till around 18 months when it becomes easier to comb again. During this period if you are wanting to keep your Coton in good coat you must be prepared to do around 20 mins combing a day, I find it best to do around 10 mins in the morning and 10 mins at night this helps prevent mats from forming and I find it is a lot easier and kinder to your dog than tugging at a matt to remove it. If you are not good at combing and do not wish to show some people prefer to have the dog trimmed once a year to a manageable 2 inches in length.
The Cotons are a predominantly white dog, although some are born with tan and black markings these will fade as the adult coat comes through, most tans disappear completely where as the black fades to a light grey.
